WHAT IS IT?

About Hall Pass

  • An exceedingly opportune role currently exists within the scope of the whole school movement for facilitating and streamlining data collection, towards promotion of creative behavioural strategies and implementation of core policies and procedures pertaining to conduct.
  • Hall Pass will provide administrators and hall monitors instant access to the names and photos of individual students they may encounter outside the classroom, affording the opportunity to offer more personalized, more timely and more meaningful support to many students who experience bullying and feel marginalized.
  • Hall Pass improves the likelihood of successful intervention in instances of assault, and more effective prevention in potential instances of assault.
  • Hall Pass users will be able to take a more proactive approach to addressing hallway situations linked to loitering, theft and vandalism.
  • Hall Pass is designed to promote the well-being and engagement of students and teachers – by adding transparency, responsibility and oversight to the hallway environment.
  • Hall Pass data is managed, saved and shared across administration and staff populations, and may also be shared with Public Health Teams, as required.

  • The highly collaborative and specialized features of Hall Pass will help to identify need (particularly where vulnerable students are concerned) as well as gaps in process and problem-solving, and be advantageous to reaching attainable and data driven safety and management goals for students and teachers, in both the short-term and long-term.
  • For optimal utility, and to help foster a culture of resiliency and belonging, Hall Pass can and should be integrated into in-class communications as a way of growing the capacity of the collective to improve outcomes by working together to boost positive and respectful behaviours and to stem hurtful and discriminatory behaviours.

What is Hall Pass?

  • Hall Pass provides a ‘snapshot’ of how many individuals are out of the classroom, who they are, and where they have gone, at any time throughout the school day.
  • It is for use by teachers and staff to conveniently enter, save and share information on mobile devices and computer ware – in real time – about the activity and whereabouts of students who are temporarily outside the classroom.
  • Colour-coded display of the names of hallway occupants changes according to the length of time an individual has been out of the classroom.
  • It equips administrators and hall monitors with an updatable digital list of students who have been granted temporary permission to be in the halls.

Staff dashboard

  • Hall Pass functions as a virtual in/out board, storing full class lists with photo ID’s as well as real-time records of the transitory locations of students in and out of class.
  • Updatable daily logs and ready access to classroom data will make it possible to quickly identify the users of hallway spaces and to improve capacity for interventions in cases of hallway conflict.
  • Stored logs will make mapping possible for more fulsome and effective contact tracing, a key tool in tracking contagions.

For Administrators

  • Hall Pass will be a key educational tool of the Caring, Safe and Accepting Schools Team, which works to uphold the school Code of Conduct by promoting a fair, safe and inclusive school climate.
  • Hall Pass will contribute to evidence-based planning and review necessary in the development of programs for progressive discipline, in line with prescriptive aspects of legal and ministerial mandate.
  • Specific data accumulated in Hall Pass can also be used to substantively inform and develop related educational programs, such as Bullying Awareness and Prevention, School Climate Surveys, and Strategies for Equity and Inclusive Education.
  • In the context of pandemic safety and preparedness, Hall Pass will collect and store information that has been gathered in real-time about the movement of students within the school, thereby providing a crucial tool for contact tracing.

For Hall Monitors

  • A whole-school approach to comprehensive school health relies on coordinated leadership at all levels of the school experience, and focuses on creating and sustaining conditions for well-being and safety.
  • Hall Pass provides an important part of this framework by transforming traditional hall monitoring into a platform for engaging community and sharing responsibility.
  • Hall Pass will assist in efforts to personalize real-time interactions with students and with offenders, affording opportunities to address day-to-day challenges in a consistent way that demonstrates caring and equity.
